Down Syndrome Awareness Girl Scout Patch Program
Christina Ray Norman created a Girl Scout Patch "Lanterns for Landon: Down Syndrome Awareness" for her Gold Award that any individual could earn. She created this patch in honor of brother Landon.
"It is important that we recognize that no two individuals are the same. We are all different. A person with Down syndrome wants the same things in life that we as 'normal' individuals want in life. They want love, compassion, friendships, marriage, jobs, cars, apartments, and respect. They want to be heard and valued. I know and believe this by listening and talking to my little brother. He has feelings and dreams that I am working to support and help come true."
"It is my goal to bring awareness to the value that people with Down syndrome bring to our world. We are all different and should all be celebrated."
"My reason for choosing this as my GS Gold Award is part of my personal journey with my little brother Landon. Landon has Down syndrome. He is very driven and most definitely has a mind of his own. My brother wants to drive and own a pizza restaurant. He is very persistent and has not wavered in his dreams. He works hard at school to achieve his goal of one day living on his own even though he is only fourteen years old. All of our differences, hopes and dreams, should be celebrated."
