CHAMPS

Our program that brings DSA's young adults together to connect, advocate and educate throughout the year at social outings and service projects

Community Heroes: Advocate. Motivate. Persevere. Serve.

CHAMPS is Down Syndrome Alabama’s statewide young adult self-advocate community designed for connection, leadership, and lifelong growth.

CHAMPS members gather throughout the year for social events, skill-building experiences, and meaningful advocacy opportunities that encourage independence, confidence, and community engagement. From dance nights and bowling to cooking classes and educational workshops, CHAMPS creates space for young adults to build friendships, strengthen life skills, and step into leadership.

But CHAMPS is more than social. Our members give back and lead. They deliver Christmas bags to teens at Ronald McDonald House, organize charitable initiatives like shoe drives, and serve as greeters and volunteers at STEP UP for Down Syndrome — representing the heart and voice of our community.

CHAMPS reflects DSA’s commitment to empowering individuals with Down syndrome to connect, contribute, and lead across every stage of life.
