Connecting the central Alabama River Region through advocacy, support, and celebration of individuals with Down syndrome.
About US
We are a local extension of Down Syndrome Alabama, serving families and individuals with Down syndrome in the Montgomery, Prattville, Wetumpka, and surrounding areas. We are a volunteer-led group dedicated to building a connected, supportive, and inclusive community.
Through outreach, education, advocacy, and events, we strive to empower individuals with Down syndrome to reach their full potential and to ensure families feel supported every step of the way. Whether you're a new parent, longtime advocate, educator, or community member, we welcome you to join us in making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.
Why Join Our Community?
When you join the DSA River Region community, you're not just signing up—you’re becoming part of a supportive, uplifting network of families, advocates, and friends who truly understand the journey. We offer connection, compassion, and meaningful resources to help individuals with Down syndrome thrive at every stage of life.
Whether you’re a parent seeking guidance, a self-advocate looking for opportunities, or a community member wanting to get involved, there’s a place for you here. Together, we celebrate milestones, share experiences, and work toward a more inclusive future right here in the River Region.
Advocacy
We advocate for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of individuals with Down syndrome across the state of Alabama. DSA works to ensure that every voice is heard and valued!
Connections
We believe strong relationships build strong communities. Through local events, family meetups, and peer support, we create opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome and their families to connect, share experiences, and build lasting friendships. You're not alone, we're in this together.
Education
Knowledge empowers families, educators, and individuals with Down syndrome. DSA provides access to resources, training, and workshops that promote understanding, support inclusive practices, and help individuals with Down syndrome reach their full potential in the classroom and beyond.
Meet Our Regional Program Manager
Trish and her husband, Steve, have three children and recently became first-time grandparents. Their youngest, Joseph, was diagnosed prenatally with Down syndrome, leading them to connect with the Montgomery Area Down Syndrome Group in 2019. Since then, Trish has been an active leader, serving as Board President since 2020. She also works with the Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network, linking DSA to national resources.
